A somewhat silly question about The Eye of the World.

2021.09.27 20:46 marienator A somewhat silly question about The Eye of the World.

So i am a first reader of the wheel of time (chapter 25) and i am a bit confused about the age of the two rivers characters, they seem teenish but i am scared of looking up a wiki.
So i would like to know the ages of Rand,Matt,Perrin,Nynaeve and Egwene.

2021.09.27 20:46 mtnbiker98 Some Observations and Lessons Learned from a 6,000 Mile Trip in our Travel Trailer

High folks,
I am wrapping up a 6,000 mile road trip around the western US with my wife and two young kids. This was our second trip beyond 3,000 miles and there were some unexpected bumps in the road as well as some success stories. I thought I would share some observations for your consideration. They are written from the perspective of the person driving the vehicle and responsible for the mechanical aspects of the trip:

  1. Resiliency is important to concluding the journey well. Things are going to happen eventually. Some of them could be potential trip enders if you lose focus on solving the problem at hand. It really helps to have a travel partner that can help you navigate a crisis and keep you out of panic mode. When the crap hits the fan, take a breath, figure out what it means to get your passengers to safety, accept that you can't control everything and do what you can to solve the problem.
  2. Check your equipment frequently...particularly the equipment that keeps you moving down the road. Advice given to me by a trucker who had accumulated 3 million miles over his career: anytime you have your tires/wheels worked on, check the lug nuts for tightness a few times in the first 100 miles. Suffice it to say, it really sucks to watch your wheel/tire pass you on the highway as you are emergently pulling over to the shoulder. In this situation, refer to point number 1.
  3. Don't be afraid to call for help when you are at your end. Let's say, hypothetically, one of your four wheels on your travel trailer did happen to come of because, reasons. Let's say it's now in the median of a major highway and there is no way you are going to be able to run across to grab it and run back without getting hit. Don't be afraid to call 911. You're on the side of a highway which is jeopardizing the safety of your family and in order to be safe, you need that wheel retrieved. In this purely hypothetical case, the local highway patrol showed up and safely retrieved the wheel for me, I mean, this hypothetical person.
  4. Don't try to push the gas in your tank in order to make it to a place or event on time. Even if your kids are crying with disappointment in the back seat because stopping for gas means missing the train ride to feed bison, it's not worth pushing your vehicle to use the last drop of gas. Adding gas to your vehicle on the side of the highway sucks. Engines do not like being run dry. Pro-tip: newer trucks seem to need a special funnel to be inserted into the fuel filler port before you can use a gas can to add fuel. If you do not use this special funnel, be prepared to waste precious gas as it is vomitted back out onto your shoes. Your manual will tell you where this is located. Again, learning these lessons on the side of the highway sucks.
  5. Two night stops are a lot of work. Particularly for travel trailer RV'ers. On an over night between drives, it's possible to just leave the trailer hitched to your truck. Maybe you put the slide out but, it's no big deal to get up in the morning, bring the slide in and head out. A two night stop sounds like a good rest but, it's not. You get there in the middle of the day or late in the day, un-hitch, set up, connect to utilities, etc. You wake up, do some sight seeing the next morning/day, come home that evening, make dinner and then say to yourself, "Well, if we want to get on the road tomorrow, I'd better get us hitched up and disconnected from everything but electrical." Hitching up is a lot of work and doing it twice in under 36 hours is not a rest at all.
  6. Roadside assistance is great but, it doesn't solve every problem quickly. GEICO will get you home but, if you're in a larger rig, they are going to have to be good at thinking outside of the box and you'll need to clearly explain your needs. Need lug nuts because, say, they all fell off of one wheel...GEICO doesn't bring those. They will help you find a place to buy them if they can but, their drivers don't carry them. They also might not understand the complexities that come with a larger rig. You cant send a standard flatbed trailer to relocate a 28' trailer. They will find you something...like a flatbed semi...but, it's going to take time and you may have to pay with your own money and get reimbursed later.
  7. Research your hill climbs/descents ahead of time. Tools like RV Trip Wizard are great and you can look at your gradient map in there but, I have found they cant be 100% trusted. If you are going in/through a mountainous state, it is worth looking up the climbs on your route so you know what you are getting into. This way you wont find yourself on a 10% gradient going down Teton pass, let's say, stuck behind a dump truck that can easily hold 25mph on an engine brake and low low gearing while you thank God that you replaced your trailer brakes before you left and still struggle to keep the temps down. There are often alternative routes in these areas that have a much smaller pucker factor.
  8. Find a tool that forecasts the wind along your route. I saw RAM 3500 diesel's with 28' bumper pulls getting blown all over I-90 in South Dakota because the winds came up. That is miserable. I like DriveWeather (iOS) for this because it lets you set your route, your start time and tells you the anticipated wind speed and direction along that route over time. It's not a 100% way to avoid windy situations but, it can help you decide between leaving today and tomorrow.
  9. Regularly encourage your kids when they have been great travelers. Long days are hard on everyone, especially young kids. Give them a high five or a hug when they've been especially good travelers. The dollar store sells a lot of great stuff you can use as daily prizes to keep them going on a long day...silly putty, puzzles and other toys give them something to look forward to on the drive days.
  10. Thoroughly express your appreciation for all the people that helped you out of jams along the way, especially the people travelling with you and, in my case, the God that lavished so much grace on me and caused that hypothetical wheel to not damage, injure or kill anyone as it rolled merrily along it's way down the road.
Happy Camping!

2021.09.27 20:46 snowyflake877 how does it feel for a dumper or anyone actually to be blocked by their ex. want insight on this.please

i had to block my ex after a few mnths post breakup nearly a year ago. it was when i initatiated contact post breakup to relieve my anxiety and speak with them. it was when he told me hw was in a comitted relationship now to which i responded by blocking him. now i have done some stalking for the first time since then i want to know how does it feel really.
ex was a sensitive person but i had to block for restraining myself from contacting them again.
PS. he once stalked my linked in while being blocked and im sure he knew i will get notified but it didnt make sense to me asto why would someone tell you to not contact you and still stalk you on a platform that they know will notify you.

2021.09.27 20:46 blouyea Can't play Genshin Impact, the game reboot my pc at the main menu

I can't play Genshin Impact since today because it won't stop rebooting my pc at the main menu. This happen really often at the eve of an update, during and some time after.
My config is: ryzen 3700x cpu, 16go ram, r9 380 gpu
I play way heavier game without them crashing or rebooting my pc, when i launch Genshin my pc ain't even hot. It's the only game that cause this problem for me and it's not the first time. Does anyone have the same problem ?
ps: i know there is a megathread for question but nobody answered me yet since some times.

2021.09.27 20:46 z0d14c Shooting video with the XT-30

Hi, I am trying to get into shooting video with the XT-30. I currently only have the 35mm f/1.4 lens which is super sweet for street photography and portrait stills but seemingly impossible to get non-shaky video with. My current plan is to purchase this lens:
Because it has OIS built-in. Is this sufficient? Am I likely to need any other equipment? A gimbal or something? The video I will be shooting is probably basic stuff like vlogs, maybe some brief video content like recording myself speaking or what have you. Not a professional and I don't think I'll be suffering too much from the 10 minute 4k video limitation, although if I enjoy shooting video I may get a better video body at some point.
Far from a camera expert so open to all feedback. Thanks!
